DAYS OUT FOR CREATIVES

Julia Cameron suggests that artists need to go on "Artist's Dates" to top up their creative tanks. But a friend who is not an artist pointed out that using Artist's Dates as a heading here could have led to the wrong sort of interest!  I'm not offering any kind of "dating" in the traditional sense, but per "The Artist's Way" some ideas for day trips that may provide creative inspiration.  As Cameron suggests, often you can be inspired by things on your doorstep.  This might be a walk somewhere new, a trip to a colourful market or the local museum that you have never ventured into. Put on your tourist hat at home and see what is nearby - you may be pleasantly surprised.

Cameron also suggests that these occasions are solely for the artist.  Sometimes if you are researching a particular project or need a quiet day that's fine, but I have enjoyed many such days out with friends and family members, some of whom are artists, some who are not.  You could share what you like and what you don't, and why, and challenge each other about what you see.  And if you are visiting alone, but still feel like chatting about the work, my experience is that often staff and particularly volunteers are a little bored, and may be delighted to engage with you.

I hope you enjoy some of these venues that I have visited over the years and recommend.
